Basic Survival Situations

Understanding the need for surviving unexpected or unknown situations is a pure and simple requirement to protect you and your family. The basics are simple and being able to put them into a simple perspective and a plan to implement at a moments notice is key. Regardless of the situation if you follow these steps in order it will increase your survival chances tremendously.

  1. Shelter: Finding shelter is imperative to survival, getting out of the elements, removing yourself from danger and the elements is key. Figuring out your next move and being able to think clearly certainly requires safe and dry shelter. https://youtu.be/_a1FU_ncz48 click this link to see how to build a shelter.
  2. Fire: This element of survival is one of the cornerstones to making it or not! Fire is many things for us, from being able to boil water to make it potable to creating fire for warmth or to dry ourselves. Fire is one of the most important elements to survival. https://youtu.be/Ma6VqwIuI24 click this link to see how to build a fire.
  3. Water: Finding a source of water is important, the human body can survive for 3 days without water, after that things get a bit sketchy. Your body starts to revolt and things go south quickly. If you don’t have water packed or haven’t prepared properly, then finding a source is now of the most importance. There are many places that you can find water, rivers, lakes, ponds, streams, toilet bowl tanks, collecting rainwater etc.. The important part is knowing that it is either safe to drink or you need to sterilize it. I always err on the side of caution and sterilize the water. Getting a parasite or bacterial infection from bad water is not a good thing to go through. https://youtu.be/04ZD-KZ4IDs click this link to learn about finding water sources.
  4. Navigation: Depending on the circumstances of your situation, you may need to know how to create a plan to move from your shelter to civilization for help. This is obviously as I stated dependent on your situation. We always have a compass with us, don’t go cheap here, I actually have added a link to purchase a good high quality compass that is great quality but reasonably priced. https://youtu.be/gw1AmXmE0cU click this link to see how to find your way to help is lost.
  5. Communication:  Again were you hiking, driving somewhere or reacting to an unexpected event.  Either way what communication options do you have, do your cell phones work?  I recommend always having multiple sources of communication.  A great option is two way radios with at least a 36 mile range.
